The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) was established by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and checks and manages individuals’ criminal records. An Enhanced Disclosure is the highest level of check that is available and it is a requirement of Shotokan Connect that all of its Affiliated Club Instructors that teach, whether that is full-time, part-time or just now-and-again, hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate that is not less than 12 months old alongside their current Shotokan Connect Licence.
Shotokan Connect is registered with Care Check Ltd who are a leading umbrella body for the Disclosure and Barring Service to enable our Affiliated Club Instructors to apply for their Enhanced DBS Certificate. Affiliated Club Instructors can apply for their Enhanced DBS check through Care Check using this link.
You will need the ‘Organisation Reference’ for your application, to request this please email Shotokan Connect’s DBS Administrator at info@shotokanconnect.com. We have created a ‘DBS Application Guide’ to take you step-by-step through the online application process and the acceptable ID documents required:
Once the online form has been completed. Shotokan Connect’s DBS Administrator will be notified of a new DBS application and will then contact you regarding your application and to make arrangements to verify your 3 different forms of ID. We are pleased to inform you that we have negotiated a reduced fee for our Affiliated Club Instructors. If you are a Volunteer Instructor and have other paid employment an Enhanced Disclosure costs £12 incl VAT and if you are a full-time/paid instructor an Enhanced Disclosure costs £52 incl VAT. DBS certificates can be kept up to date through the online update service, which costs £13 per year (payable by debit or credit card only) but is free for unpaid volunteers. Once you have obtained your DBS certificate and number, you need to register to use the update service via the link below in order to keep your DBS up to date. You must do this within 30 days of the certificate being issued.
Once registered, you can use the update service to view your details, add or remove a certificate, give schools, sports centres or church halls permission to check your certificate and you will be able to see if anyone has checked your certificate.
If you do not renew your subscription before it ends, you will need to apply for a new DBS check and register for the update service again.
